How To Pull Out Of A Negative Spiral

…we’ve all seen those movie scenes where the hero races up to the plane’s cockpit, only to find it empty, the crew is drugged, and they’re looking at a mountain or the ground coming at them.

Their first reaction is to grab the stick and fight with it until they get control. And Hollywood being Hollywood, it’s usually at the last possible second that we see the nose lift and disaster is diverted.

How many of us go through this?

A book flops.
A blog post is met with the sound of crickets.
An email get’s no replies.

You doubt yourself. You doubt why you’re doing what you’re doing. And then you question yourself.

And like that plane dropping it’s nose, you mentally spiral toward the ground.

I’m no good!

I’m shouldn’t be doing this!

I haven’t got the talent!

Who am I to think I can sell my work?

Ever been on one of those?

I have many times. One negative thought becomes two, then they invite a few friends, and before you know it, you let go of the controls and fold your arms.

And watch your dream plummet to the ground.

‘Who was I kidding?’ you say to yourself and wait for the impact. ‘I’ll was never good enough to be a…..blogger, author, coloring book publisher, etc.’

Then you hear a ping – you’ve got an email – and you read it.

“I’d just like to say that book you wrote was amazing.”

“Have you got any more coloring books?”

“That email you sent really made me think, keep doing what you’re doing.”

All of a sudden you question what you were doing, and grab the controls to pull up from your negative nose dive.

“What was I thinking?” you say to yourself.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had those moments too. On the verge of giving up I get a good book review, a reply from an email, and I get a second breath.

But why hold off for those moments to save you from disaster?

Jamie Alderton, someone who I follow and listen to on his Mindset With Muscle podcast, gave a great piece of advice. He creates his own highlight reel.

Every time he get’s a positive email, a good book review, he takes a screen shot of it and puts it away in a Dropbox file.

When he’s down and questioning himself, he pulls out his highlights reel and goes through them.

He says himself, after a few moments reading back through all the positive messages his mind instantly pulls out of it’s negative funk.

Why not try out yourself today? Or even better, message that author, or person that you admire and tell them what they’re work has done for you.

Because you never know, you might be the person that pulls them out of a tailspin. Plus, you’ll get the good feels for doing something nice for someone else.

There’s nothing like getting a book reviews to put a skip in your step. I’ve had a few that made my week. Problem is, getting the ball rolling. There’s nothing worse than a book that’s got nothing on it.

If you’re looking for more Kindle reviews without buying software, or pestering people, then you need book reviews made easy.

It’s even got it’s own domain name. – BookReviewsMadeEasy.com
