This Is Probably Going To Get Me In Trouble….

…any of you that are married or in a long term relationship, probably have a partner that drives you up the wall sometimes.

Magical and all as Mrs Mac is, she does have her faults. One of those is not putting stuff away after she’s used it.

She’ll say I’m a little OCD, but without being Sherlock Holmes, I could tell what she’s been up to just walking into a room.

If it’s the kitchen, the kettle’s not back on it’s stand. The tea bag jar is missing it’s lid and a hundred other things.

I can’t help but go around the room and put everything away and back it’s place.

Sad, I know. But it bugs me.

Thing is, when I ask her why she does it, she’s says that she got distracted, something came up, but that she meant to get back to it.

Or maybe she’s just giving stuff to do. 🙂

At the moment I’m reading Deep Work (you can pick it up for a buck right now), but there a lot of people like Mrs Mac, who suffer from having too many mental tabs open, or are busy doing stuff that makes them look busy, but aren’t getting anything done.

Cal Newport reckons that setting up time blocks and working without distraction is the way to get more done in less time.

Multi tasking is a myth and switching from one job to another means that part of your mind is still working on task one, when you need it working on task two.

Jump back and forward, and you’re never giving 100% of your effort to either task.

So whatever you’re having trouble finishing or getting done, set aside an hour or two and focus solely on the job you need to be doing.

And ONLY that one thing.

Turn off the WiFi, switch off your phone and give it your all for that time. The world will be waiting for you when you get back.

If you can’t get peace in a noisy house, go for a drive somewhere quiet and work out of your car. – Whatever it takes.

Not only will you get more done, but you’ll start to notice busy tasks that aren’t moving you ahead. – Facebook, Twitter, and reading emails aren’t going to pay the bills.

Make stuff and then sell that stuff. It’s as simple as that.

And for those of you coloring book makers, I’ve added 100 images to the download area – in both PNG and JPG – so you’ve no excuse not to get a book done by the end of the day.

Here’s the link to Deep Work.

PS – And if you haven’t got the Clever Coloring Creations course
yet, you can pick up a copy here.

And as for Catherine, if you’re reading this, I’m claiming a moment of temporary insanity.  I don’t even remember writing this.

I swear.
