A Puzzling Marketing Plan

…many moons ago, well going back to 2005, if I remember. An author, Michael Stadther, came up with a marketing plan for his book.

To make it more interesting for his readers, and to sell books, he hid clues in the book that would lead them to 12 hidden tokens.

Each of these tokens could then be redeemed for a real life jewel. – Which when all totalled up,was worth a million bucks.

Not too shabby a deal, says you.

And it wasn’t, he sold over 600,000 books for his trouble. Which back in 2005 was a lot of books. 🙂

Things is, the money didn’t exactly get paid out straight away, there was a supposed tour of the tokens that was to take place before the payout. – And honestly, I don’t know if anyone ever got their money.

It probably pissed off a lot of fans, but again, it did shift a lot of books.

While you mightn’t have to go as far as cashing in all the family jewels for your next marketing plan, you could throw in the odd cryptic puzzle for fans to solve.

An easy way to do that is with Rebus puzzles.

You could give a money off voucher, a password to a hidden web page, or a link to a free report all with a Rebus message.

It’s very easy to do, and you can find out more by clicking here.
