Can You Change Your Opinion For Me?

…imagine you’re walking down the main street of your local town or city and a complete stranger steps in your path, blocking your way past them…

‘Could you change your opinion to make me feel better?’ the stranger says.

‘You what?’

‘I said, could you change your opinion to make me feel better?’

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’d think this guy was a few sandwiches short of a picnic. And probably walk on by, shaking my head.

And yet you see it everywhere online…

‘I don’t agree with your thoughts on religion, so I’m gonna argue with you all day until you give in, because when I change your opinion…it’ll make me feel better.’

‘I don’t like that book you wrote, so if you’ll agree with me that it’s bad….it’ll make me feel better.’

‘Take back that thing you said about that person, – because me and my friends here think otherwise –  and when you do, it’ll make me feel better.’

Now, unless you’re the biggest racist, or that book you wrote was a complete dog’s dinner, there’s very little you’ve got to apologize for or feel guilty about.  Especially to a ‘poor me’ troll whose only using you to make them feel better about themselves.

When you look at that bad book review, negative comments on Facebook, through that lens, you’ll find that that comment will roll off you like water off a duck’s back. – Or at very least, take any sting out of it.

Now off you pop, and go make something for yourself, and not to appease someone else’s opinion.

Had I been looking for someone’s opinion I probably wouldn’t have made this.
