“You’ve Received A Payment!”

…. “You’ve got received a payment of $27”

I sat looking at the email and grinned.

All those hours working on my PC with a crappy dial up modem had paid off.

Yeah, things were finally turning around.

I shouted down to Catherine to tell her the good news. “Hey, I got a payment!”

She came running up the stairs and stared at the screen.

“Well, what do you think?”

“Nice one. Keep it up.”

Like a golfer that gets a hole in one, that payment notification kept me going for a long time.

It had to, my payment notifications where few and far between.

I was also spending more money than I was getting in.

My ‘business’ was an healthy as a sick animal that should have been put down.

I couldn’t see that at the time.

And so, I keep throwing money on the blaze.

Looking back now, there were so many mistakes I made. I never built an email list, I never tweaked what was working and cut back on what wasn’t.

But, those were the good ole days of Google AdWords where everybody was throwing money at it in the hope of making it big.

For what I paid Google, they probably should be handing me a set of keys for one of their self-driving cars.

That’s how it goes when you don’t know what you’re doing.

You make mistakes.

You do stupid things.

And you’re blind to it all.
