Never Listen To The Haters, Here’s Why…

…now that we’re on the way to Christmas, I took a trip down nostalgia lane the other day and revisited one of my first books ….’Father Christmas B.C – (before Claus)’ just to see how it was doing.

While it never lit up Amazon, and you won’t find a CG cartoon version of it, it has a soft spot in my heart.

One of the reviewers had a different opinion though.

He lamented on about how I hadn’t given the illustrator his due credit for the images, how there were better versions of books with those characters, and that I was the spawn of the devil.

OK, the last part isn’t true, but he was sure spitting up some bile in his review.

While some of that may be true, his claim to fame is that he’s in the top 1000 of Amazon’s reviewers.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve just pushed my seat back to stand up and applaud him. – That’ll sure be a nice subtitle on his gravestone.

‘Here lies one of Amazon’s best reviewers.’

Thing is,

It’s the easiest thing you can do, you just open your mouth and say something that you think the world needs to hear.

Twitter’s full of them at the moment.

All Joe and Jane nobodies with an opinion they think the world needs to hear.

However…

Then we have the other sign of the coin.

I’ve had parents thank me for writing my  Minecraft books, and even had one kid do a school project on me and my books. – Blown away on both occasions.

Thing is, the reviewer up there will never have a moment like that. They’ll never know what it’s like to create something that can make a difference in someone’s life.

They’ll never leave anything worthwhile behind them other than a ‘this book sucks’ line on a page that only a handful of people will ever see.

The lesson for the day, do something creative even if no one likes it or thinks you’ve got the skills.

Yeah, do go where there is money to be made, but keep going even if you do get the odd gobshite throwing muck from the sideline.

They’ll never know what it’s like to score a touchdown or have the crowd cheering their name. All because they’re not risking anything and playing life on ‘safe mode.’

Haters gonna hate, but that’s because they’ve got nothing else to give.

Keep plugging away.
