Don’t Do Jack On It!
…once upon a time, there was a man named Jack.
And one day Jack decided to open a store.
So like any good store owner, he bought the best stock he could afford and filled his shelves – all the while imaging customers coming in and handing over their cash at the till.
Standing back, after he’d dressed the store to the best of his ability, he smiled. Opening day tomorrow was sure going to be a hit.
The following day Jack stood at his counter and stared at the open door wondering where his customers were. – The only one that paid any attention to him, was a dog who stuck its nose in the doorway and sniffed the air.
Maybe tomorrow would be different, he thought to himself. They’ll come tomorrow.
But unfortunately, the next day ended the same.
And the day after.
Open for a week now, Jack shrugged his shoulders and looked around at all the wonderful things in his shop.
He knew they’d make a difference in people’s lives.
He knew that the prices he asked for weren’t high.
If this kept up….he’d have to think about closing down.
Why didn’t anyone visit his store?
.
.
.
You’ve got to feel sorry for someone like Jack.
They’re a good person, trying to make a living in a good way, but no one’s buying their goods.
Jack’s problem.
He didn’t tell anyone what he was doing.
He assumed that because he opened a store people would just flock to him.
But that doesn’t happen.
You’ve got to tell the world that you and your business exist.
Because if you don’t, no one is going to notice.
If you believe in the thing you sell…and you believe that your product is the best in your niche…then it’s on you to make sure people know about it.
For example, imagine you had a cure for cancer.
And people were dying because they didn’t know it existed.
I’m sure you’d bust a gut to tell as many people as you could.
But sometimes it’s tough getting your message out there.
And sometimes it’s scary getting out of your comfort zone.
And sometimes it feels a little icky trying to convince someone to buy your products.
But there is an easy way to do it.
And that’s through story.
I’m playing around with the idea of creating a course on storytelling and how to use story to sell.
If that interests you, hit REPLY and let me know.
It’s only a thought right now, so I’m gauging for interest before I create it.
Let me know.
Moral of the story, don’t be a Jack.
