Children’s authors, are you having problems getting your readers to leave your book and come over to your website? If you’re landing page or website is looking like a ghost town, then maybe you could try some of the following.

1 – Coloring Pages – How about setting up some coloring pages based on the characters in your books for young readers to color in? Whether you want to put them behind an opt in page or not is up to you. But if you give them away free, make sure to have a link to your website at the bottom of each image. By leaving them open to public view,  you may actually pick up traffic from the search engines as your coloring images end up in the search results.  Who knows how many times your coloring images may be downloaded and used? But for each time  they are, your hyperlink will be on each image which may drive free traffic back to your website further down the line. If you want, you can also set each coloring image on a separate web page and have banner ads advertising all your books on it.

2 – Joke Book – Why not create a joke book and offer it for free on your website for readers to come and collect. The theme  of the joke book could be related to the theme of your book. So  so if your book was old MacDonald had a farm, then your jokes would be farm related or animal related. Again, whether you want to put this behind an opt in form or not, is up to you. But like the coloring images, have plenty of hyperlinks and information inside it to where all your books are.

3 – Puzzle Book – Depending on the age of your audience, you can create puzzle books  or handwriting books. These can be created and left in a .PDF format where they can be printed off at home and used by the child and the parent. Again this puzzle books, this will be filled with hyperlinks and details of your other books. Like the coloring pages, you can use some of your characters from your book and carry them over to it, so that they become part of the puzzle books or handwriting pages. If your audience is an older audience, you could create crossword puzzles or word searches using words and phrases from your book. In one case you can even create a puzzle, that when the solution has been found, it leads to a secret page on your website where they can download a free book.

4 – Create An Audio Version Of The Book – Why not create a companion of your book in an audio file and give it away? You can either narrate the book yourself or hire someone on a website like Upwork.com to do narration for you. When creating your audio file, why not make it a child friendly version to listen along to with the book? You can set this up using a chime noise, so the know when to turn the page to continue reading with you.

5 – Create A Video Of The Book –  Like the audio version of your book, why not create a video version of it too? Whether you want to do a read over the shoulder style video, where  you don’t appear in the video ( and just you go the book reading the text on each page), or you want to read the book to camera (and act out the parts of the book) is totally up to you. Again like the coloring pages, you can have banner ads, links to your other books, or a link leading to review section of the book. It’s totally up to you.

6 – Giveaway A Free App –  You can create an app with a website like Appsmoment.com. Not only is this a great way to keep in constant contact with your reader, but you can also set up a virtual bookstore in the app and sell all your other books through it. Appsmoment.com also allows you to include interactive games, or web links in your app. One of which could be to an opt in page,  so you can add them to your mailing list.

7 – Create A Competition – Why not create a competition page? You could offer a free Amazon $20 voucher once a month?  A box set of your most popular books?  Or a t-shirt or sweatshirt featuring the main character on the front of it? The possibilities are endless. But one of the terms of the competition is that the winner only gets notified by email. So that anybody coming to this page must leave a valid email address for a chance to win. If you can’t get in contact with them, then somebody else will be picked.

And there you have it, 7 simple ways you can get your readers to leave your Kindle book and come over to your website. Play around with them,  or even come up with an idea of your own, and see which one works best for you. You have nothing to lose and a mailing list to build. Best of luck.
