What’s Your Fun Level At?

…yesterday I posted on the Facebook page about doing what you do for free.
Meaning, if you didn’t make money from what you do, would you keep doing it?
Now, I don’t know where you’re at right now, maybe you’re still at that point where you’re doing things for free, or making next to nothing, but putting in long hours.
But is it still fun to do?
The reason I ask, is that something happened to me yesterday, that really annoyed me and brought me back to a place from my past.
Somewhere I didn’t ever want to return to.
But as life does, when you don’t get the message, it has a funny way of coming back at you until you pay attention to what you’re doing.
And for a while, I thought about what I was doing, was it fun anymore?
Where was the fun?
Because when I’ve had the most fun, it’s also been the most profitable.
The most popular books I wrote were the easiest to do.
The most profitable courses I made, were the ones that took the least effort to do.
The ones, I felt I had to push uphill, never worked out, or were never worth the effort that I put into them.
Now, before you think I’m pulling down the shutter on WriteCome I’m not, but I think I’ll be going in a different direction than I am now.
Going back to when I had more fun, I’d have to say it’s been the fiction side of things.
Given a choice between creating a colouring book, or losing myself in a world in my head, I’d have to say that there’s no comparison.
Same goes for coaching.
I don’t mind helping folk when they’re stuck, but having to keep a rod at someone’s butt, isn’t me either.
I’ve never had a problem getting into a routine, and going through the motions almost ‘Rain man’ like, but pushing people uphill isn’t fun…and not what I want to be doing.
Now that we’re coming to the end of the year, it might be a time for reflection on both our parts.
If you’re not having some kinda fun, and it’s a chore to fire up the laptop, then maybe what you’re doing isn’t right for you.
No matter what my, or anyone else’s sales letter tells you, if it’s not fun for you…it’s not right for you.
And you’ll never stick with it long enough until the money comes in.
If you’re working to get out of a drab 9-5 job, then the last thing you need is to trade it for a drab 9-5 job at
home.
Life’s too short for that.
You want something that makes you proud of what you created.
The more you enjoy what you do, the more you’ll love telling other about it.
Because, if you’re afraid to open your mouth, you’ve got to wonder if it’s right for you.
I’d could stick a hyper link here today and try to sell you a product of mine, but honestly, I don’t think this is the email for it.
All I want you to do is what I’m doing.
Going back to basics and looking for the fun.
Barry J McDonald.
