When Was The Last Time You Challenged Yourself?
Most of us, if ever, challenge ourselves. Because it’s easier to sit on the couch, always assume that things will stay this way, and don’t make me step out of my comfort zone. – I’m happy right where I am.
But do you ever notice that when we stay like that, life has a way of pulling the rug out from under us? In those moments, we’re given no choice but to step up to the plate and make a move. We’ve got a problem to work out, a health condition to overcome or have to stand and face that fear we’ve always run from.
And in those moments, we find that we’re stronger than we thought we were. Are more resourceful than we gave ourselves credit for. And that fear we faced, there was nothing behind that door when we opened it.
For a lot of us, that’s the only time we take on more than we can chew. And once it’s gone, we’re back to coasting once more until the next fire comes along that needs to be put out. – Forgetting that that challenge made life interesting for a while, made us see things in a new light, and there’s a lot more to us than we gave ourselves credit for.
If you’ve found that you’ve got a little lazy lately when it comes to pushing yourself, here are 3 things to keep in mind…
Better To Be Prepared Than Left Wanting
A lot of us have goals and dreams of what we’d like to achieve in life, but what if they were given to you and you weren’t ready for them? That you were magically transported from where you are right now into that role and were found lacking. That the people you wanted to inspire, help, and make a difference to, were stood in front of a person that couldn’t cope with that responsibility.
It’s A Way Of Protecting You And Your Business
Will we ever be met with a zombie apocalypse? Who knows? But getting some cardio in on a regular basis could be just what you need some time in the future. And so it is for your business too.
Challenging your business could be the protection you need for some future moment. How could it be done better? What are the leaks I should be plugging right now? How would I take down my own business? Each of those problems tackled now could pay off handsomely in the near future.
You’re Either Going Forward Or Backward
If there’s one constant in life it’s that there is constant change going on. And believing that you can claw onto a safe space and stay there is a myth. You might be able to stay there for a while, but you can be guaranteed that life has other plans for you. And once you’re back on that treadmill, you’ll find that if you don’t keep up you’re going to fall behind.
“We don’t grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges.”
While that slogan seems cute to have on a bumper sticker or t-shirt, a lot of us miss the point. That there is a reason challenges are tough, uncomfortable, and we don’t want to take them on. And it’s because we’re going to be covering ground we’ve never covered before. – In those moments we’re going to see that there’s work that needs to be done, that we’re not good enough, and we’ve left ourselves open to criticism.
But on the other side, when you’re rolling down the opposite side of that steep hill, you won’t be afraid of what’s ahead. That if that thing comes up, you’re already prepared to tackle it, and you’re not afraid of it. – And all because you pushed yourself now when it didn’t matter because you knew one day it would matter.
