5 Reasons Why You Need To Repurpose Your Content
1 – Bad Timing For People – Sometimes you’ll find that some content you create is before its time, or maybe isn’t right for your audience yet. If you were one of the first people to write about Bitcoin in the early days, that piece of content might fly by your audience because it wasn’t on their radar. – But write a piece on it now, and everyone knows what Bitcoins are.
Also, maybe your audience isn’t up to speed with the latest advanced tricks because they’re only at the beginner level. But by repurposing that content and putting it back in front of that audience at a later date means they’ll be up to speed with what you were trying to teach.
2 – Hollywood Doesn’t Promote A Movie In One Place – Ever notice that a new movie gets promoted everywhere? You can’t look at a bus, billboard, TV, or YouTube channel without coming into contact with it in some shape or another. And that’s because they know that their potential audience is everywhere. – So if your audience.
Because of that, you should be converting text to audio, audio text, video to text, and any other format you can, knowing that some people only listen to podcasts, some only go to YouTube, some only read blogs, so you get your content in front of as many people as you can.
3 – Bad Content Can Be Good Content Somewhere Else – Ever create a piece of content that bombed, even though you thought it was the best piece you put together? – I think we all have.
But what might surprise you is that a bad piece of content on one platform can take off on another one. A prime example is from my own podcast. Some of the lowest listened to episodes, when converted to video using the ‘Headliner App,’ became some of my most viewed videos. Weird, I know. But try it out and you may be surprised by what you find happens.
4 – The Internet Is Constantly Updating Itself – Go to any platform, and you’ll see it’s like a conveyor belt. Content is there today, and tomorrow it’s disappeared from the newsfeed. So with that in mind, how long is your content going to be in front of your audience, one day, two maybe?
If that’s the case it’s worth dusting it off and bringing it back regularly. Now, you can bring the content back in the form it already was, or you can freshen it up by taking one segment of it and expanding on it, changing its format from text to video, text to audio, or any number of combinations. Most times when it’s in a new format your audience won’t notice the difference, and sometimes you’ll explain it better in a new format so your audience understands it better.
5 – Sometimes Your Message Needs Repeating – It’s been said that a sales message has to be seen seven times before people buy, and the same can probably be said of your content. Sometimes your message needs to be repeated again and again, in different formats, until it finally registers with someone.
We’ve all been there when we read a book the second time to find something new in it or had a lesson repeated before the penny finally dropped. And your audience isn’t going to be any different. Some days they’re not giving you their full attention, sometimes they think they know something but not really know it, and sometimes we need a refresh of the basics when we wonder why the advanced tricks aren’t working.
If those five reasons aren’t enough for you to dust off that old content of your and redo it, redress it, and repurpose it, you’re going to have a tough road ahead of you. But if you do, you’ll find your audience will see more of you, in more places than before, and you’ll wonder why you haven’t done it months before now.
PS – Don’t be surprised if you see this content coming up again in some shape or another. – Because there’s no rule that says that you can’t repurpose an article on repurposing.. : )
